Applesauce French Toast

This Applesauce French Toast features warm, cinnamon-spiced slices of whole wheat bread soaked in a rich egg and applesauce mixture, cooked to golden perfection, and served with butter, syrup, and turkey sausage.

Ingredients

Pantry

  • 2 tsp Cinnamon

  • 2 tsp Sugar

  • 1 single-serving cup of Applesauce

  • 8 slices Whole Wheat Bread

Fridge and Freezer

  • ½ cup Milk (or alternative)

  • ¼ cup Pancake Syrup

  • ¼ cup Butter (optional)

  • 2 Eggs

  • 4 servings of Cooked Breakfast Turkey Sausage

Directions
  1. Wash hands with soap and water. Grease and heat an electric skillet or large nonstick pan over medium heat.

  2. To a shallow bowl, add ½ cup milk, the cinnamon and sugar, 2 eggs and the applesauce, and beat well with a fork.

  3. Soak the bread, one at a time, in the egg mixture on both sides, then add to the skillet. Cook for a few minutes on each side until golden brown.

  4. Heat sausage according to package directions.

  5. One serving is 2 pieces of French toast. Serve hot with butter (optional) and syrup, with sausage on the side. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours

*Make this recipe gluten-free by substituting gluten-free bread.
